Workshops
A workshop stands in a town and sells services to the people there. It earns while you are away, and it needs your attention about once a week. The node workshop opens it.
How it works
Section titled How it worksA workshop has bays, and each bay takes one mechanic. One mechanic sells up to 8 services per day and costs €150/day in wages, also on a day when nobody comes.
| Site type | Bays | Price |
|---|---|---|
| 2 | €34,000 | |
| 4 | €60,000 | |
| 8 | €110,000 |
You decide three things: how many mechanics you hire, which services you offer, and what each service costs. A service without a mechanic is off the menu.
The three services
Section titled The three services| Service | Share of the demand | Base price | Parts per service |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tire service | 50% | €60 | €15 |
| Repair | 20% | €160 | €40 |
| Inspection | 30% | €100 | €5 |
- Tire service is volume: half of the town at a low price. It needs many mechanics.
- Repair is margin: few jobs at a high price, with dear parts.
- Inspection is labour: almost no parts, so a mechanic earns the most per service.
Demand
Section titled DemandA town asks for one service per 400 inhabitants per day, split over the three services by their share. Every week each service in each town has a weak, a normal or a strong week: 60%, 100%, 140% of its demand. On Friday the workshop shows next week's outlook, so you can move mechanics to the service that will be asked for.
Price and competition
Section titled Price and competitionYou set each price between €40 and €300.
- A dear town asks for less. When the average price of a service in town rises above its base price, the demand for it shrinks.
- You share the demand with the other workshops of the town and with the garages that were always there. Those garages count as 4 bays at the base price.
- A lower price wins a larger share. Your weight is your mechanics on that service times the square of base price over your price.
- You never sell more than your mechanics can do.
Payout
Section titled PayoutA workshop has no cashbox to empty. At the settlement it books what it sold: the price of each service, minus the parts, the wages and the upkeep.
If your cash cannot cover the wages, the mechanics stop and the workshop sells nothing until they are paid.
Vehicle service
Section titled Vehicle serviceVehicles need a service after a set distance. See Vehicles.
- With a workshop of your own you pay the parts alone, €40 per service. Any workshop of your company serves any of your vehicles.
- Without one you pay the garages of the town €240.
- Each service another company orders adds one repair to the demand of the town where the vehicle is homed. A workshop near the farms of other companies earns from their fleets.
