Day, night and upgrades
Every site has a day and a night, and most sites do less at night. An upgrade is equipment you add to a built site to change what it does.
Day and night
Section titled Day and nightThe night of a site lasts from 21:00 to 05:00 of its local time, 8 h of every day. The local time is the sun time of the place, so the night falls about half an hour earlier in the east of Germany than in the west. The game writes the hours of a night in your own time zone.
Each site type has a night rate. The day makes up for the night, so the rate on the card of a site is the mean of a whole day.
A
farm makes 4.0 t per hour on average. At night it makes 1.0 t per hour and by day 5.5 t per hour. Its storage carries the difference: it fills by day and gives the goods back at night.
A forestry nearly stops at night, a mill runs on a small crew, and a depot or a workshop works the same around the clock. Site types states the night rate of every type.
Nothing happens at dusk or dawn that you have to react to. The stock of a site is computed from its rates whenever a vehicle loads or you look at it.
Night trips
Section titled Night tripsA trip that starts while the home site of the vehicle has night takes the night numbers of that site. A vehicle homed at a
depot needs 6% less time on the empty roads and pays 20% more operating cost. The numbers are fixed when the trip starts.
Upgrades
Section titled UpgradesAn upgrade is bought once per site and stays with it. It is not sold, not moved and not refunded when the site is demolished. The game has 21 upgrades. Upgrades lists them.
- Price. A share of the price of the site type, so an upgrade costs more on a large site than on a small one. The land of the site does not change it.
- Upkeep. A share of the upkeep of the site type, charged with the site at the settlement.
- Effect. An upgrade multiplies one or two numbers of the site: its rate by day or at night, its storage, its garage slots, the handling of vehicles there, its bays, its rent. Two upgrades on one number multiply.
- Research. An upgrade opens with the node that opens the first site type it fits, unless the tree names it under another node.
An example
Section titled An exampleField lights on a
farm cost €12,000 and €10/h. The farm then works at 3 times its night rate: 3.0 t per hour at night in place of 1.0 t. That is 16 t more grain per day, without a new site, a new route or a garage slot.
Figures
Section titled FiguresA site and a vehicle each open a view of the numbers behind them. For a site it shows the day or the night with its hours, the rate now and per day, and how the rate comes about: the type, the land, growth, the season, the day or night. Read it when a number on a card surprises you.
